YEREVAN. – Armenia’s opposition Republic Party leader, and former PM, Aram Sargsyan decided not to run for president in the elections that will be held on February 18, 2013. Sargsyan himself stated this while addressing the party congress on Friday.

“I hope you will not consider my not running [in the elections] to be a result of a lack of will, or of something to say. I apologize to all those fellow party members and supporters that were convincing me to run,” he said.

The Republic Party head is far from the view that the forthcoming presidential elections in Armenia will be qualitatively better and will contribute to the country’s development. He is convinced that these elections are just another action of reproduction for the incumbent authorities.

Sargsyan noted that they will make use of the results of these elections in order to unite the forces that bear liberal ideologies and they will take part in all political processes after February 18, and he promised that everything will start on February 19.

And with respect to supporting any other candidate in the elections, Aram Sargsyan said he will cast his secret ballot, and the Republic Party has not made a decision on supporting a presidential candidate.
