By working together, the EU and Russia can make a decisive contribution to global governance and regional conflict resolution, President of European Council Herman Van Rompuy said during the 30th EU-Russia Summit.

“It is particularly important to address the protracted conflicts. I also raised the importance of moving forward in the ‘5+2’ talks on the conflict in Transnistria and expressed concerns regarding developments in Nagorno-Karabakh,” reads the statement posted on the website of the European Council.

He welcomed that the elections in Georgia open up new opportunities to improve bilateral relations and work towards stability in the Southern Caucasus, on the basis of the respect for territorial integrity.

The 30th EU-Russia Summit was held in Brussels on December 20 and 21. EU was represented by Herman Van Rompuy and European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso, while Russia was represented by President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
