“Russia seems to have come close to joining NATO. Moreover, now it is more possible than 10 years ago,” NATO former Secretary General George Robertson stated in the interview with Russian Kommersant newspaper.

“Presently, Montenegro, Bosnia, Serbia and Moldova wish to join NATO. And if their candidacy is approved, a new type of security organization will be established in Europe. I assume Russia’s enter into the alliance inevitable,” Robertson said.

Russia and NATO are allies in the present context. Good relations with Russia are “one of the NATO’s priorities”, he noted.

“The new conception of the relationship between Russia and NATO is that the problems they both have to solve are the same ones: international terrorism, organized crime, religious extremism and proliferation of mass destructionweapons,” he emphasized.
