YEREVAN. – Russia’s foreign policy has become more pragmatic towards the CIS countries, Armenian political analyst said.

Head of Noravank research center, expert Gagik Harutyunyan said one of the examples is Russia’s approach towards Azerbaijan.

“It was expressed not only in terms of Eurovision, but for example, on Baku-Novorossiysk oil pipeline which will be closed from December 31. We see tougher policy towards Ukraine and the countries of Central Asia. On the other hand, Russia has become more active outside the region, trying to influence the situation in Syria,” he said during the Friday press conference.

Referring to the recent statements on status quo by Russian FM Sergey Lavrov, Harutyunyan said they did not contain anti-Armenian elements.

“The end of the status quo and long-term peace are, of course, desirable. Another thing is how Armenian and Azerbaijani side imagine the peace,” he added.
