Situation in Karabakh remains complicated and may blow up, OSCE Chairperson’s Special Representative for conflicts Andrii Deshchytsia said.

Speaking during the session of strategic discussion club in Kiev, Deshchytsia explained there is a threat that the conflict can explode in the context of Armenia’s intention to launch air communication between Yerevan and Stepanakert.

The special representative noted that the reluctance of Armenian and Azerbaijani leaders to hold a bilateral meeting creates the danger. Deshchytsia stressed that the Ukrainian chairmanship of the OSCE has offered the parties to hold a meeting of Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan as soon as possible.

However, the OSCE representative pointed to the existence of a stabilizing factor in the region, in particular, presidential elections in Azerbaijan and Armenia. In addition, a stabilizing factor, according to Deshchitsa, is holding Olympics in Russia’s southern city of Sochi.

Russia wants the Caucasus to be a quiet and safe place, he said, adding that Russia is playing a constructive role in maintaining regional security.
