Turkish President Abdullah Gul had a telephone conversation with U.S. President Barack Obama a few hours before a discussion of the Armenian Genocide resolution by the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee. The conversation was held on the Turkish leader’s initiative.

The officials also discussed regional issues, CNNturk reports.

According to some reports, Gul expressed hope that the U.S. will not allow “such an injustice” to the Turkish nation.

As NEWS.am reported previously, before the inclusion of Armenian Genocide issue in March 4 the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee agenda, the White House issued statement miffing Turks.

According to Turkish Vatan newspaper, the White House National Security Council spokesperson Mike Hammer said that President Obama did not change his stance on 1915 events. “We back the true and just avowal of reality. The best way to reach it is consideration of Armenia-Turkey relations’ normalization efforts and realities of the past. We continue believe in this and ready to make efforts into the process further,” Hammer stated.
