YEREVAN. – Armenia’s European integration will enable to create more effective mechanisms toward the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue.
Ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) MP, RPA Executive Committee member Samvel Nikoyan stated the aforesaid during a press conference on Thursday.
He noted that one of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing countries (France) is a European Union (EU) member, whereas another country (USA) represents the West.
“In this respect, it is more appropriate for us not to turn down the helping hand that is offered. As for our national security, European integration is yet another platform where we can raise the blockade imposed upon Armenia,” Nikoyan noted.
As per the MP, neither the EU top officials nor Russia have proposed Armenia to make a choice between the two directions.
“Armenia must build its policy on the correlation, and not the contradictions, of the interests of the major geopolitical centers,” Nikoyan argued.
He added that with the ratification of the Armenia-EU Association Agreement, numerous Armenian companies—plus the Russian companies that are registered in Armenia—may enter the European market, and this yet again bespeaks the correlation of Armenian-Russian interests.
In conclusion, Samvel Nikoyan stressed that the initialing of the Armenia-EU Association Agreement is realistic during the Eastern Partnership summit to be held in Vilnius, Lithuania, on November 28 and 29.
