YEREVAN. – The OSCE works closely with the Police of Armenia in the improvement of police activity. 

Ambassador Andrei Sorokin, Head of the OSCE (i.e., Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe) Office in Yerevan, told the aforesaid to Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Sorokin noted that the respective reforms comprise several directions: Cooperation and confidence building between the Police and the population, and the introduction of “community policing.” This new model is already introduced throughout Armenia since last year.   

“The other important direction of police reforms is the improvement of the education system; I can note a positive change here, as well. With our assistance, a three-tier education system is introduced: A police education complex which consists of an academy, a college, and a training center. The result will be observable in several years, when there will be the first graduates,” Ambassador Sorokin added. 

The OSCE Office in Yerevan also assists Armenia’s Police in better cooperation with the media.
