YEREVAN. – Uruguayan Foreign Minister Luis Almagro said his country is ready to assist every issue related to Armenia’s interests.

On Saturday Luis Almagro received Armenian parliament speaker Hovik Abrahamyan who is on a visit to Uruguay.

The Minister attached importance to Armenian speaker’s first official visit to Uruguay, adding that it would give new impetus to Armenia-Uruguay high level relations. He is convinced inter-parliamentary ties have crucial role and significance for development of relations between the states. Luis Almagro noted that Uruguayan authorities are showing respect towards Armenian community.

Speaker Abrahamyan rated high relations between Armenia and friendly Uruguay and underscored further expansion of inter-parliamentary ties and intensification of cooperation in different fields.

The sides pointed out close cooperation between the two foreign ministries.

Hovik Abrahamyan thanked Uruguayan Minister for position on Karabakh conflict voiced during the Armenian national council in September 2011 and the summit organized by Urugay-Armenia parliamentary friendship group.  

In turn, Luis Almagro noted that by becoming the first state to recognize Armenian Genocide, Uruguay laid foundation for international process of Armenian Genocide recognition.
