Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan stated the aforesaid Wednesday at a press conference held at the border with Azerbaijan.
In response to the query on the chances of deploying Russian peacekeepers in Karabakh, the minister recalled that Armenian soldiers stand at the boundary.
“Our [Armenian] peacekeepers have performed marvelously in various countries. The Armenian peacekeeping soldiers, who are spread out along the borders, perform their duties. There is no place in the world where this is the case. We are doing and will continue to do this,” Ohanyan stressed.
The minister reminded that the Armenian MOD is the guarantor of the independence of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR).
“This is noted in the military concept; this means that we, together with the [NKR] Defense Army, will perform all [relevant] tasks,” the minister said.
As for the chances of the 102nd Russian Military Base—which is stationed in Armenia’s Gyumri city—getting involved in the conflict in the case of a military aggression, Seyran Ohanyan noted that all commitments are specified by bilateral agreements and the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) charter.
