Lithuanian Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius met with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, who came to the EU Eastern Partnership Summit.

The meeting also discussed relations between Azerbaijan and the EU and bilateral cooperation with Lithuania, Eu2013.lt reports.

Prime Minister Butkevičius expressed his belief that the Association Agreement between the EU and Azerbaijan would bring the Azerbaijan-EU relationships to a new level of quality.

Aliyev agreed that the energy security is one of the key issues and there is potential for cooperation in this sphere.

The Prime Minister also welcomed the fact that the EU-Azerbaijan negotiations regarding the visa regime facilitation and readmission have been concluded, the agreements have been initialed, and the procedures regarding the signing of the agreements have commenced.

“I hope that the Agreement on the Visa Regime Facilitation will be signed during the Vilnius Summit, and the Readmission Agreement will follow suit in the near future,” Prime Minister Butkevičius said.
