YEREVAN. – The protests by several hundred people are not those political masses that can substantially change the present-day situation in Armenia.  

CIS Institute Armenia Country Director, political scientist Aleksandr Markarov told the aforesaid to Armenian News-NEWS.am.  

Markarov reflected on Monday’s demonstrations in capital city Yerevan, and against Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Armenia on the same day and the Armenian authorities’ decision to join the Russian-led Customs Union.

“It is clear that several hundreds of people expressed their position. Of course, not everyone agrees with Armenia’s foreign policy,” he said. 

But the analyst added that, by and large, these are a small number of activists that do not enjoy a large support among the Armenian society.

“We do not expect the turn of events that are occurring in Ukraine. And the fact that the people are rebelling shows that we have different views,” Aleksandr Markarov stressed.
