YEREVAN. – The person, who was taken to hospital from the Government Building of Armenia on early Monday morning, is a security officer.

The Government Chief of Staff-Minister, Davit Harutyunyan, confirmed the aforesaid information by Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“He is not our employee, but [that] of the organization that carries out security at the Government [Building],” said Harutyunyan. “According to preliminary information, he attempted to commit suicide.”

The injured is Lyudvig Hovhannisyan, 32.

As reported earlier, Hovhannisyan was taken to the No. 1 University Hospital in capital city Yerevan. 

Armenian News-NEWS.am has learned from the hospital representatives that he is undergoing surgery, and he has a gunshot wound to his head.

The circumstances behind the incident are being ascertained.
