YEREVAN. – The Armenian Committee for the Protection of Freedom of Speech (CPFS) and several other organizations are following the course of the criminal case into the violence against journalists on June 23 in Baghramyan Avenue in Downtown Yerevan, the capital city of Armenia, within the framework of demonstrations against the electricity price hike in the country.

CPFS Chairman Ashot Melikyan stated about the above-said at a press conference on Thursday.

As per Melikyan, this incident was unprecedented because such a large number of journalists had never been affected before in Armenia.

According to the CPFS head, the respective problem is that the country’s law does not define what preliminary investigation data are, and which is not subject to disclosure.

In his view, because of this incident, the international organizations will lower the freedom of speech rating of Armenia, and this is due to the apathy of the state agencies of the country.
