YEREVAN. – The ongoing demonstrations in Yerevan—the capital city of Armenia—have left a big impression.

Belgian MP Julie De Groote stated the aforesaid Saturday in the National Assembly of Armenia.

A visiting Belgian parliamentary delegation, led by De Groote, spent several days also in Nagorno-Karabakh. But on their return to Armenia on Friday, demonstrations were staged at Liberty Square and Baghramyan Avenue in Downtown Yerevan.

“The demonstrators passed by our hotel, and we, as MPs, had to interact with them,” said the Belgian deputy. “We are impressed with their civic activism.

“We know that the demonstrations are against the rise in the electricity tariff [in Armenia]. But, of course, it would not be right for us to give an assessment [in this regard].

“But what we saw shows that Armenia is committed to the freedom of demonstrations, and democratic values.”
