Three U.S. military trainers have been shot dead in an exchange of fire at an air base in Jordan on Friday, a US official said.

One soldier was killed at the base two others died later in hospital in Amman.

They were in vehicles approaching the gate of a military training center at al-Jafr air base when they came under small-arms fire, BBC reported.

As a result of the incident one Jordanian officer was also wounded.

The U.S. Embassy in the country confirmed an incident with participation of the American military personnel and stated that at the moment they are in contact with the relevant Jordanian authorities , however hasn't provided additional information.
