YEREVAN. – The prosecutor motioned for life imprisonment for the three Armenian citizens, who are charged with the murder of an Indian citizen in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), and to steal large amounts of diamonds, in December 2013.

Prosecutor Aris Barseghyan said the aforementioned during his remarks at the Court of General Jurisdiction of Kentron and Nork-Marash Administrative Districts of Yerevan, the capital city of Armenia. 

He motioned that these defendants be sentenced to 15 years in prison for banditry, whereas to life sentences for murder, coupled with racketeering.

According to the indictment, Hovhannes Melkonyan, 35, had created a stable organized criminal group, which included Khosrov Melkonyan, 24, and his friend, Semyon Yedigaryan, 26.

The UAE law enforcement had petitioned to the Prosecutor General’s Office of Armenia to have these three Armenian citizens be handed over to them, but the Armenian attorney general had turned down this petition. 

The next court hearing is scheduled for Thursday.
