Residents of the U.S. states of California and  Massachusetts voted for marijuana legalization, The New York Times reported.

Leading up to the election, recreational marijuana use was legal in five states: California, Maine, Massachusetts, Arizona and Nevada.

In addition to votes on recreational marijuana, Arkansas, Florida, Montana and North Dakota all had medical marijuana initiatives on the ballot.

It was reported earlier that if the sale of marijuana is allowed at least in California, where 39 million people live, the U.S. budget will receive up to $ 18 billion.
