YEREVAN. – The opposition in Armenia has no chance of winning; artificial unions are ignorance.

National Assembly Vice President Eduard Sharmazanov, who is also press secretary of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), on Tuesday told the aforesaid to reporters in Parliament.

When asked whether the country’s opposition has a chance to win the forthcoming parliamentary election, Sharmazanov also responded: “Frankly, no. Take a look at who the opposition is. What does it mean to have a chance? (…). If all of them unite with one another, I will only be happy; but that’s impossible.”

The RPA spokesperson substantiated his view as follows “Because the key issue in the 2017 parliamentary elections shall be the foreign policy of Armenia. But these [opposition] political parties need to clarify their [respective] position. (…). Even if they unite, it will be a brief pre-election combination that will have the fate of the previous similar combinations.”
