Every third Friday of December the Yazidis celebrate the Holy Easter, also known as Eda Ezi.

The holiday is dedicated to the forefather of Yazidis, sultan Yazidi, Chairman of the Association of Young Yazidis of Armenia, Said Avdalyan, said at a press-conference on Friday.

In his words, Sultan Yazidi is considered the ambassador of God on the Earth, and the Yazidis celebrate this holiday exactly in his honor.

According to Avdalyan, the Yazidi people got their name in honor of Sultan Yazidi. “The holiday is preceded by a three-day fasting: on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday Yazidis must fast. Children, pregnant women, newly-weds, as well as elderly and ill people disengage from this,” Avdalyan noted.

On Thursday evening, Yazidis visit their clergy to get blessing, he added.

“The holiday itself is celebrated on Friday. On that day, Sultan Yazidi visits the houses of the faithful Yazidis and blesses them. The Yazidis set a festive table with sweets and different dishes to welcome the honorable guest, Sultan Yazidi, whom they ask to realize their wishes,” said Avdalyan, adding that the Yazidis celebrate the holiday for three days—Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
