U.S. Vice President Mike Pence reportedly used a private email account to conduct public business,  while he was governor of Indiana, BBC reported quoting his office.

The private email account was first reported by the Indianapolis Star. Records of the emails were obtained by IndyStar through a public records request.  The newspaper claimed that Pence routinely used a private email account to conduct public business as governor of Indiana, at times discussing sensitive matters and homeland security issues.

According to the newspaper, Pence's personal account was hacked last summer, after which the governor has created a new email account.

Indianan law allows officials to use personal email, however, requires that all correspondence about official matters must be saved and available to the public.
