Bangladesh and Myanmar agreed to take help from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to safely repatriate Rohingya Muslims who had fled violence in Myanmar, Bangladesh Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali said on Saturday, Reuters reported. 

According to Reuters, uncertainty over whether the UNHCR would have a role had prompted rights groups to insist that outside monitors were needed to safeguard the Rohingya’s return.

More than 600,000 Rohingya sought sanctuary in Bangladesh after the military launched a counter-insurgency operation across the northern parts of Rakhine State on August 25.

UNHCR representatives stated that UNHCR is ready to assist Bangladesh and Myanmar on the refugee problem, in accordance with international standards.

Earlier, Myanmar and Bangladesh have signed a memorandum of understanding on the return of possibly hundreds of thousands of Rohingya refugees to their homes in Myanmar's Rakhine state. According to the memorandum, it was decided to start repatriation in two months.
