Vakhtang Gomelauri, Head of the State Security Service of Georgia, said the Service suspects that international terrorist Akhmed Chatayev was killed in Wednesday’s special operation in capital city Tbilisi, reported Novosti Gruzia (News Georgia) news agency.
Chatayev is leader of one of the ISIS cells in Turkey, and he is accused of planning the 2016 Istanbul airport attack.
According to a theory, Akhmed Chatayev and his two accomplices were killed in the said antiterrorist operation in Tbilisi.
“There is a suspicion that it could have been Chatayev,” said Vakhtang Gomelauri. “But the clear answer will be found out after the examination, when a DNA analysis will be conducted.”
Head of the Georgian security service added that experts, who have arrived from the US, also are participating in the investigation into this case.
