The prosecutor's office in Brussels has launched an investigation into links of former parliamentarian Stefaan Joris and the deputy of the Brussels Regional Parliament Alain Destexhe to the Azerbaijani regime, Le Soir reported.

Joris and Destexhe are the founders of the European Academy for Elections, which received funding from Azerbaijan and several times published surprisingly positive reports on the electoral processes in Azerbaijan.

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) is also investigating Alain Destexhe’s activity. Destexhe was serving as a PACE co-rapporteur on Azerbaijan.
