YEREVAN.- Yerevan celebrated the 46th anniversary of the 46th anniversary of the establishment of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The event was attended by representatives of diplomatic missions accredited in Armenia, government representatives and other guests.

In his welcoming speech, the ambassador of the UAE to Armenia, Jassim Mohammed Al Qasimi noted that the relations between the countries found their roots in the principles of cooperation and mutual respect, and evolved into a strategic partnership between the two countries people over the recent years.

According to him, last visit of Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan to the UAE, visit of the UAE Foreign Minister to Yerevan in July 2017, as well as the expected visit of Crown Prince Abu Dhabi to Armenia indicate the efforts of the two countries to upgrade these relations to a higher level.

The ambassador emphasized that the levels of commercial, economic and cultural exchanges are in constant increase, and a strong indicator of the development of this relationship is the increase in trade between the two countries in the first nine months of 2017, reaching $140 million, compared to $71 million of the same period last year.

“The confidence of the UAE business sector in the Armenian economy resulted in the increase and development of the ecomnomic relations between the two friendly countries and the increase of the UAE investment in Armenia,” the ambassador said. 

In turn, the Chief of Armenian Presidency Staff, Armen Gevorgyan congratulated the UAE on a national holiday and expressed readiness of the Armenian side to develop relations with the UAE in various spheres.
