German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed the development of relations between the two countries in a phone conversation on November 30,  DW reports citing Anadolu agency

According to the Turkish state news agency, both politicians agreed that bilateral contacts “should be given new impetus at a high level” after the government is formed in Germany. The present conversation between Merkel and Erdogan was the first in many months.

The leaders also discussed the Ankara-EU treaty on refugees. According to the document, Turkey accommodates refugees who arrived to the Aegean islands in Greece, and in exchange for this the EU gives Ankara money for the maintenance of migrants.

In addition, Turkish citizens were promised visa-free entry to Europe and new negotiations on joining the EU. At the same time, Ankara states that Brussels is not implementing agreement  properly, and regularly threatens to withdraw from the treaty.
