Lebanon’s President Michel Suleiman approved the candidacy of Hezbollah-backed Najib Mikati as Prime Minister of the country.

Mikati won the nomination of 68 members of the country’s 128-member assembly.

Tuesday’s protestors held demonstrations as a sign of protest against Mikati’s appointment, Interfax reports.

The ARF-D member Abraham Dedeyan, Minister of Industry, is among the Lebanese Government members that resigned on December 12, 2010.

Under the Lebanese constitution the cabinet is automatically dismissed in case three ministers resign. However, President Michel Suleiman asked incumbent Prime Minister Saad Hariri to continue work of the government until social-political crisis in the country is eased. Saad Hariri was informed of ministers’ resignations in Washington where he was meeting with President Barack Obama.
