French Foreign Ministry recommends its citizens to avoid traveling to regions adjacent to Armenian-Azerbaijani border, as well as Nagorno-Karabakh. The message posted on website’s “Tips to travelers” page mentions incidents regularly occur in the bordering regions, whereas mine threat exists in Syunik region.

“Nagorno-Karabakh and occupied territories of Azerbaijan are dangerous areas. The separatist entity is not recognized by any state and we cannot assure consular protection of our citizens,” the statement reads. It is also mentioned that the Armenian-Turkish border is closed because of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict despite the ceasefire signed in 1994.

In a statement referring to Azerbaijan French travelers are informed Nagorno-Karabakh is “mainly Armenian-populated territory in the heart of Azerbaijan” , while “20% of Azerbaijani territory is occupied”, RFE/RL reported.
