The first president of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, who heads Nur Otan party, urged to hold a congress and nominate a candidate to participate in the presidential elections, Nazarbayev’s press service reported.

Nazarbayev, who led Kazakhstan for nearly thirty years, resigned as president on March 20. The head of state now is Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, who had previously been the chair of the senate. Early presidential elections will be held on June 9.

On April 9, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed a decree on holding snap presidential elections in Kazakhstan.

 According to Nazarbayev, a party congress should be held to nominate a candidate for the upcoming presidential elections

According to the first president, the party apparatus must promptly carry out all the necessary work to prepare the congress.
