Renowned Armenian animator Robert Sahakyants died untimely at 59 on September 24, 2009. Several days ago Sahakyants was operated on his heart. Doctors did their best, but failed to save his life, NEWS.am reports.

Rober Sahakyants is a Soviet animation film director, script writer and an artist. He worked in “Armfilm” studio as an artist and animator since 1970. He is the author of all his 30 films (10-30 min duration), as well as the scripter of 70 commercials on Russian OPT and Armenian TV channels. His films were awarded in French, Italian, Spanish, German, Japanese and Soviet film festivals.

His animated cartoons brought up a whole generation. The images of Qadj Nazar and Kikos are known to everyone. They are extraordinary and full of national colour. Sahakyants was romantic, loved his job and was concerned over the future of Armenian animation. Recently, Robert Sahakyants completed the shooting of “Path to home” cartoon.
