YEREVAN. – A number of ex-servicemen had requested the assistance of the Human Rights Defender (Ombudsman) of Armenia in obtaining military pension.

They informed that after being discharged from the armed forces, the Ministry of Defense (MOD) has been refusing for years to appoint them military pension, citing that their 45-year-old age limit had passed when they had started their military service.

The Ombudsman staff had launched discussions on this matter, and letters were addressed to the MOD.

During the discussion, taking into consideration the Ombudsman's letter, the MOD made a decision to count the period of military service after reaching the aforesaid age limit by calendar count, too, in the military service seniority necessary to appoint a long-term military service pension to the serviceman.

As a result, the issue raised by the aforesaid serviceman has been resolved with the assistance of the Ombudsman. Moreover, the MOD has reported that the persons who were formerly denied on the similar issue have also received military pensions.
