YEREVAN. – In case Turkey nominated Armenians for parliamentary election, it would be an asset for Ankara on its way to the EU membership, Poland’s Ambassador to Armenia Zdzislaw Raczynski told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Earlier Turkish parties refused to nominate Armenians although they had declared such an intention.

“Decision of Turkish political parties was possibly conditioned by political situation in the country during the election campaign. Parties are simply guided by their interests, as the nomination of Armenian candidates could have an unfavorable impact on election results,” he noted.
 
The Ambassador stressed that Turkey is in search of its future: it chooses whether to return to tradition of the Ottoman Empire, a pro-European Turkey or a pro-Islamic Turkey.
 
As Armenian News-NEWS.am reported earlier, seven Armenians could run for Turkey’s 2011 parliamentary election.
 
Later none of them was included in the candidate lists presented by the parties.
