YEREVAN. – Two participants in the protest of the applicants who were not admitted to universities were taken to the Central Police Department in Yerevan on the grounds of not fulfilling the lawful request of the police. The press service of the police informed Armenian news-NEWS.am about this Monday.

According to them, a corresponding report will be prepared regarding these two apprehended persons, after which they will be released.

At the moment, the other protesters have gathered in front of the aforesaid police precinct and demand the release of those apprehended.

Earlier in the day, the applicants who were not admitted to universities and their parents gathered in front of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, and demanded a meeting with Minister Arayik Harutyunyan. The minister, however, did not come down from the ministry building for a meeting, after which the protesters blocked the street across and staged a sit-in. Subsequently, the special police forces apprehended several protesters.

To note, these applicants who were not admitted to universities and their parents are protesting, complaining about the results of the university entrance exams and the new approach of the education department. Accordingly, numerous applicants with lower scores were accepted to universities, whereas many applicants with higher scores were not accepted, as the applicants’ selected profession was underscored this year, and therefore priority was given to those who selected a given profession as their first choice, rather than to those with high scores in any subject.
