A former assistant in the US State Department was arrested on charges related to the Capitol attack, NBC News reported, citing the FBI press service and related documents.
Federico G. Klein was arrested on Thursday by the FBI in Virginia, but the agency did not discuss the charges or the case, and court documents apparently did not appear on the Internet.
According to government records, Klein worked on Donald Trump's campaign in 2016 and was recruited by the State Department in January 2017.
Government records show that, at least in 2020, Klein served as a political appointee at the State Department as a special assistant to the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs.
An FBI spokesman forwarded additional inquiries to the District of Columbia Attorney's Office.
