Australians will need booster shots to be considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

The authorities said that foreign travelers would still need only two vaccinations to enter the country, Reuters reported.

The Australian national cabinet has approved revised guidelines for the vaccination advisory group.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison said a person's vaccination status would be considered expired if they did not receive a booster within six months of their second dose.

The Australian authorities have only made vaccinations mandatory for some frontline workers, but many private businesses, including large corporations, restaurants and retailers, have made vaccinations a requirement for entry.

As a result, the country is one of the most vaccinated in the world, with 94% of people over the age of 16 receiving a double dose. At the moment, about 10 million boosters have been introduced.
