SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said that the first orbital flight of Starship could take place in another month or two. While he foresees setbacks, he is confident that Starship will be in orbit by the end of this year, AP reported.

Musk revealed the first major Starship upgrade in more than two years, standing next to a 119-meter rocket at the SpaceX launch site in Texas.

NASA plans to use the fully reusable Starship to land astronauts on the moon as early as 2025. In the meantime, Musk hopes to deploy a Starship fleet to create a city on Mars by transporting equipment and people there.

At the moment, the first flights will deliver Starlinks Internet satellites into orbit.

“There will probably be a few bumps in the road, but we want to iron those out with satellite missions and test missions” he added.

SpaceX is awaiting approval from the Federal Aviation Administration before proceeding with Starship's next phase: into orbit. Musk said he expects approval in March and that the rocket should be ready to fly by then. This means that the launch will take place in the next couple of months, he added.

Musk estimates that a Starship launch could cost less than $10 million, or maybe even just a few million dollars. He called it insanely low and ridiculously good by current space standards.
