Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said the government will take serious sanctions against those who impede a reduction in the prices of basic food products.
Erdogan said that both the finance minister and the trade minister have made their statements on the matter.
"The punishment will be severe. Controls will continue," he warned.
Earlier, the Turkish government cut VAT on basic foods from 8 percent to 1 percent to fight inflation.
