It is necessary to establish a mandatory requirement for the availability of appropriate technical conditions in vehicles presented at the tender and intended for intra-community use, for access by persons with disabilities, Zaruhi Batoyan, deputy from the ruling Civil Contract party, noted during the National Assembly on Tuesday.

The government, in particular, proposes to authorize the establishment of a minimum number of vehicles put up for tender for the organization of suburban, intercity, intraregional, interregional and interstate transportation.

The changes regulate the process of transferring aids for the disabled when organizing routes, clarifying the duties of drivers when transporting passengers of this category, and introducing a requirement to comply with accessibility standards for organizing parking activities, Batoyan said.

According to the author of the legislative initiative, access to public transport is one of the most important issues for people with disabilities.

The government, in turn, presented a positive position. However, the executive has proposed extending the effective date of the law, as vehicles and car parks need to be adapted to the needs of persons with disabilities. After some discussions, the bill received a positive conclusion from the standing parliamentary commission.
