Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced the renaming of Aspen Island in the Australian Capital Territory - Canberra, in honor of the platinum jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, according to the Australian Associated Press.

The artificial island is located on the southeast side of the Burley Griffin Reservoir within a ceremonial site known as the Parliamentary Triangle.

Now this place is officially known as Queen Elizabeth II Island. Here is the 57-bell Australian National Carillon, built in 1970 and donated by the monarch as a gift from the UK.

Landmarks across the country, including the Houses of Parliament and the Sydney Harbor Bridge, were lit up in royal purple this week in honor of the four-day anniversary.

As part of the British Queen's Jubilee celebrations, Australian Governor General David Hurley arranged a phone call with the Queen and the 2022 Australian of the Year award winners.
