Passenger cars produced 10 years ago cannot be used as taxis starting January 1, 2010, RA Minister of Transport and Communications Gurgen Sargsyan stated at Nov.11 interview.

“This year we met the vehicles’ owners halfway, as the cars produced 10 years ago were allowed to be operated by auto parks for some more months, however this practice will be suspended starting next year,” Sargsyan outlined adding the owners of taxi services were provided an opportunity to buy new cars.

According to Sargsyan, presently over 2.500 obsolete taxis were registered. If their owners do not renew their vehicle fleet, they will forfeit the right to provide services. The renewal of taxi fleets already launched, the Minister outlined. Almost 800 taxi owners purchased new vehicles and keep on rendering services to the population.

Under RA Government decision, the car owners whose vehicles were produced 10 years ago cannot ply as taxis. Sole proprietors lodged protests against the decision stating they make thus their living.
