YEREVAN.- Armenia’s Ministry of Agriculture plans to ban the use of food hormonal additives.

Minister of Agriculture Sergo Karapetyan introduced in parliament amendments to the law “On food safety.” All other artificial growth stimulants will be banned as well.

The imported poultry is often criticized by the Armenian farmers, as it is “hormone-pumped”, hence cheaper but less healthy.

The bill also provides for a definition of special purpose products - dietetic and baby food. Here the requirements are stricter, genetically modified products may be banned as well.
