Thus, President-elect Donald Trump and his party will get all the levers of power in Washington.

A Republican-controlled Congress will enable Trump to quickly assemble his own cabinet and other top administration posts and push his agenda for at least the next two years, although Democrats will have some influence—with small majorities—in the House and Senate.

The landslide victory for House Republicans was ensured by Trump's decisive victory over Vice President Kamala Harris in both the electoral college and the nationwide votes.

This is a major blow to House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and the Democrats, who will now be virtually unable to oversee Trump.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the Republicans had picked up seven seats, while the Democrats—six, leaving the GOP with a net victory of just one seat. At the moment, the Republicans have received 218 seats, the Democrats—208 seats.
