The final list of EU countermeasures against US tariffs will be adopted on April 15, the first part of the tariffs will come into force on the same day, said European Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security Maroš Šefčovič, writes DW. The rest of the tariffs will be introduced from May 15.
At the same time, according to Šefčovič, the EU is ready to sit down at the negotiating table with the U.S. on mutual tariffs in case Washington is ready, but the EU “will not wait indefinitely.”
Earlier, the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen said that the EU offered US President Donald Trump to cancel all tariffs on industrial goods on both sides, but “there was no adequate response to this proposal.”
According to von der Leyen, in the current situation, the EU intends to expand trade with other countries, such as India, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia. She emphasized that 83% of global trade is conducted outside the US.
