The percent of children suffering violation of rights in Azerbaijan is incredibly high, Vice Chairman of the State Committee on Family, Women and Children Problems Sadaget Gahramanova told Trend Life.

“The rights of Azerbaijani children are violated in the family first. It is impossible to calculate the number of children facing human rights’ violation when they marry at early age against their will. Some children are deprived of right to education, they live in the streets, their parents renounce parental rights,” Gahramanova said. According to her, there are even cases when children from social secured families face these problems.

Gahramanova stated that 2009 was declared “Year of a child” in Azerbaijan, but still a number of issues with Azerbaijani children is unresolved.

According to Azerbaijani Ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova, the enormous number of children in Azerbaijan is jeopardized. Presently, about 14 000-15 000 children live in orphanages.
