November 27, 2009 at 9:30 p.m. Moscow time a train derailment killed 39 passengers and wounded 95 others in Novgorod Region, Russia, RF Emergency Situations Minister Sergey Shoygu stated. Four cars of Nevski express train travelling from Moscow to St. Petersburg derailed near the village of Uglovka.

The train was carrying 682 people, of which 661 passengers and 21 crew members. 19 people are still unaccounted for. Presently, 224 people are working in the accident site.

Several versions of the accident are being considered. A terror attack is also suspected as some witnesses heard a loud bang before the crash, Vesti Reports.

The derailment delayed the routes of more than 60 passenger trains for over 8 hours, totaling 27.000 passengers.
