The events, taking place in Armenia contradict the statements of the country's new leadership about the refusal to pursue their political predecessors, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told reporters on Tuesday, RIA Novosti reported.

"The events of the last few days...contradict the recent declarations of the new Armenian leadership that it was not planning to pursue its predecessors on political grounds," Russian news agencies quoted Lavrov as saying.

"Moscow, as an ally of Yerevan, has always had an interest in the stability of the Armenian state, and therefore what is happening there must be of concern to us," he said.

Lavrov said his ministry had raised its concerns with the Armenian leadership, and he was hoping for a "constructive" response.

According to him, during the political crisis in Armenia in May of this year,  Moscow was very pleased to note that the solution to the crisis was based on the compromise with all the leading parties.

"We hoped that, based on this result , all political forces, first of all the new leadership of Armenia, the new authorities, would continue to promote unifying approaches, would strengthen the national accord, "Lavrov said.

"However, the recent events obviously violate the positive attitude, contradict the Armenian leadership's recent statements," he concluded.
