The Tesla Model Y electric car became the sales leader in the European market in August, according to the report of research company JATO Dynamics.

In general, during the last month of the summer, 21,500 Tesla Model Y electric cars were sold in the EU, and sales increased by 208% compared to August last year. This model also continues to lead in the first eight months of this year, with a result of 169,400 units.

“It’s likely that the Model Y will become Europe’s most popular new passenger car by the end of the year. As a non-European model leading in Europe, it will be a remarkable and historic moment," said Felipe Munoz, Jato’s global analyst.

The Peugeot 208 is in the second place in August sales, and the Volkswagen T-Roc is the third. Next came the Fiat (Abarth) 500, Dacia Sandero, Volkswagen Golf, Opel (Vauxhall) Corsa, Renault Clio, and Citroen C3. The top ten was completed by the Tesla Model 3 electric car, whose sales increased by 307% compared to August 2022.

And Volkswagen, Toyota, BMW, Audi, and Skoda made up the top five brands in terms of sales amount.
