The Latvian parliament on Thursday passed, in the final reading, the amendments to the country’s law on sports.

These amendments provide that the national teams of Latvia will be prohibited from playing against the national squads of Russia or Belarus if they participate in a sports competition under their national flags or in a neutral status, reports the Delfi news portal.

Also, these amendments stipulate that Latvia is prohibited from organizing national team sports competitions in which the national squads of Russia or Belarus participate under their national flags or in neutral status.

These amendments to the aforementioned law are aimed at "emphasizing Latvia's solidarity with Ukraine and fundamentally blocking any attempt by Russia to 'legitimize war crimes through sports.'"
