Several explosions at a popular open-air market in Somalia's capital, Mogadishu on Tuesday killed at least 10 people and wounded many, locals told Reuters.

"I counted 10 dead and 15 injured. My store is completely destroyed. Explosions went off in four places in the center of the market," Bakara market trader Hassan Ali told Reuters.

It could not be ascertained who was responsible for the blasts.

Bakara, Mogadishu's largest market, is teeming with vendors and most residents shop there daily for food, clothing, medicine, electronics and other goods.

Residents told Reuters there were several explosions that destroyed many stores. Three nurses at a hospital in Mogadishu told Reuters that more than 20 wounded people had been taken to the hospital.
