Turkey will help the new Syrian authorities in creating a 300,000-strong regular army; Turkish military advisers and specialists will take part in its creation, reports Turkiye daily.

"Our goal is to create a 300,000-strong army within a year or a year and a half. The difficult situation inside the country and the Israeli threat make it necessary," General Ahmad Osman, a representative the new leadership of Syria, told the aforesaid newspaper.

According to him, at the initial phase, a 70,000- to 80,000-strong Syrian army core will be formed, and their number will reach 150,000 to 200,000 in the shortest possible time.

"Fifty thousand soldiers of the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham group from Idlib, as well as military and intelligence officers who were not involved in the crimes [of former President Bashar al-Assad’s regime], will be included in the [new Syrian] army being created. Turkey's military support is of exceptional importance at this phase," added Osman.

The Turkish military contingent will be deployed in five vitally important areas in Syria, adds Turkiye daily.
